Experience Versus Temperament – Coaches’ Milestones

Here is another preview for the Brazil v Croatia World Cup opener. But this time it isn’t a usual one. Let’s see the national team coahces!

Niko Kovac started his youth career in Germany.

Luiz Felipe Scolari was appointed to be the coach of Gremio.

1991 – 1996

Niko Kovac was transferred to Herta BSC and started his professional carrier in the summer of 1991. He had played 5 seasons in Bundesliga 2 before he moved to Bayer Leverkusen in 1996.

After a long Middle East journey „Felipao” returned to Brazil and won the Libertadores Cup, the Brazil Cup and Brazilian Championship with Gremio. This period was the breakthrough for Scolari.

Niko started all the three matches in the World Cup in the Croatian national team. Unfortunately underdog Ecuador won the third match against Croatia so „The Blazers” were eliminated in the group stage.

After 1970 the Selection won the tournament undefeated. After Vittorio Pozzo (1934, 1938) Scolari may be the second manager who can win two World cup finals as a coach.

Croatia was eliminated again in the group stage in Euro 2004. Kovac scored the first goal in the final match against England but they lost the game.

The Brazilian Gene Hackman played another football final but Portugal was beaten in the final by Greece.

After a beautiful player and a short assistant-coach carrier Kovac was named the manager of Croatian national team. In his first five matches he is undefeated but today…

Scolari won the Confederations Cup at home in 2013 but this will be harder. The first step is Croatia…
