Two minutes before Uruguay took the lead against Italy, Luis Suarez bit Giorgio Chiellini in the box. After the bite Chiellini used his elbow to get rid of Suarez and both players fell to the ground. The referee didn’t blow his whistle but it seems to be clear that Suarez’s World Cup is over. He bites his opponents regularly, it is the third similar case in four years. First, he attacked Ottman Bakkal when he played for Ajax, then he got suspended for 7 matches. Last year he bit Branislav Ivanovic from Chelsea and he got suspended for 10 games. Watch his attack against Chiellini and decide for yourself how much it was worth.
During the game Chiellini tried to convince the referee and showed him the bitmarks but Suarez could stay on the pitch. After Italy’s elimination Chiellini was angry, he said: “Suarez is a sneak and he gets away with it because FIFA wants their stars to play in the World Cup”. Suarez thinks it differently; he insists that it was an everyday accident during which he was hit by Chiellini.
But the bitmark serves as an evidence. FIFA is investigating the case. Suarez can face a 2-year-long ban.
